The year-end is almost here and so is the much-awaited Christmas long weekend. For families craving a quick escape before 2025 ends, December brings one of the best travel windows of the year. With Christmas falling mid-week (Thursday, to be specific), you can apply for a Friday leave and turn this into a long weekend! Simply put, you can plan a mini vacation with your kids by taking a day or two off work and turning it into a 3- or 4-day winter getaway.

From hill stations in India to twinkling Christmas markets across Southeast Asia, here are the best destinations you can visit with your kids this December long weekend.

Shimla amp Kufri Himachal Pradesh — Shimla & Kufri, Himachal Pradesh

If your kids have never seen snow, December is the perfect time to head to Shimla or Kufri. Wrapped in festive cheer, the hills are often snow-dusted, with pine trees and toy train rides, and walks along the bustling Mall Road markets selling Christmas trinkets. Shimla’s open-air ice skating rink is also worth a visit, as is Kufri if you’re looking for snow play and yak rides. You can extend your weekend by one day to include the hugely popular toy train ride from Kalka to Shimla.

Goa

If you prefer the sun to snow, Goa is India’s most festive spot in December. With midnight masses, carol singing, and warm beaches, Goa is magical at Christmas. The state’s Christian community also decks up the locals spots, and you can partake in cake mixing ceremonies across town. If you’d like to be away from the crowds, South Goa offers many quieter beaches and surfing experiences.

If you’re planning a quick international trip with kids, Singapore delivers a December experience in spades. Had a good trip with family. The cab driver was polite throughout. But we faced a few issues: the hotel was under construction, breakfast and dinner options were limited compared to a buffet, and room cleanliness was a problem. All Seasons staff Shivam was courteous and arranged an alternate hotel nearby which was good.
